Zafars and Shahs still alive?

I wasn’t been as interested in history as it turned out to be this week. Coincidentally, a visit to the Red Fort in Delhi marked a new era of my interest in it. It was like being between a devil and a deep blue sea to watch the ‘light and sound’ show in the evening. Just in the nick of the time as the ticket windows were about to get closed, my family decided to give it a try. My better half, an ardent reader of history was raring to go. Inspite of a sore sole, she was eager beaver to explore. L&S show started with a packed house, though twenty minutes late. I was yawning while my wife tried to correlate whatever she studied in her education days with the demonstration. Suddenly, something struck the chord with me. The expositor described about Nadir Shah who had attacked India during one of the faintest and meekest Mughal rule of all times. He took away gold, ornaments, pearls et al., on 17,000 horses and elephants. Yes 17,000. Nadir Shah’s soldiers were taken head on by few cloth washers after they tried too forcibly take away their doves. As retaliation, he ordered massacre of the citizens that continued for 3 days and 3 nights. We all watching were jolted and befuddled. Another revelation took the ground off our feet. Bahadur Shah Zafar had renunciated the throne to British empire before getting himself into a solitary confinement in Rangoon. He never spoke in the favor of the city and its people and was more indulged in mushairas. Also, he gave away his two sons to the Britons in lieu of his life. Well, we all connected the dots and reached to the today’s age ‘Z&S’? We have ‘Shahs’ who have stuffed the nation’s wealth in their Swiss bank accounts and ‘Zafars’ who are wiling to do anything to keep their power ego in sight. Our Indian ‘Zafars’ never speak on any of the issues of national importance. I hope Kapoors, Kalmadis, Bhanots, Chavans are listening. We need not describe more on this since the new-age Media places each and every account of the event in our ears safely. The only anguish we all had was if these ‘Z&S’ surrender the nation to someone interested, what will be it like for us. ‘Z&S’ have already made up their fortunes. They can easily shove away to any place with their family and friends once the situation arises. They won't think twice before handing us over to the over taker as Zafar did with his sons. Doesn’t it send shivers down the spine? At least for me, yes. Not feeling like saying more on this…
